PROCESSING AT RIETFONTEIN PLANT
The Rietfontein operation is located in the western area of the Bushveld Complex close to Rustenburg. The facility boasts an impressive three stage crushing plant that allows it to treat any form of Run of Mine (ROM) feedstock. The washing facility concentrates on the production of specialist high grade products such as foundry and chemical grade concentrates. The chrome sand concentrates are sold both in the local South African market and is also exported to various international markets including China, USA, Europe, Japan, Korea and Brazil.
PROCESSING AT BENONI PLANT
The Benoni plant operates in the same fashion as the Rustenburg operation but on a smaller scale. Feedstock is however also sourced from local foundries within the larger Johannesburg area. The plant mainly produces metallurgical grade concentrates ranging from 42% to 46%.
LRUSTENBURG CHROME MINE
Rustenburg Chrome Mine has a reputation for being a supplier of high quality chrome ore. The mine is situated in the Western Limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex, a mineral deposit which hosts the majority of the world’s chrome ore resources.
The ore is broken underground and brought to the surface by a system of conveyor belts. On surface it is processed at Clover Alloys’ plants into:
- Chemical grade ore for local and international markets,
- Lumpy ore and metallurgical concentrate for raw material use in the ferrochrome industry, as well as
- Foundry sands for use in metal foundries.
